Last May my wife and I decided to relocate from Baltimore, MD to Puerto Morelos, Q.R. Mexico! We had been to the Yucatan before but knew very little about living here, let alone buying a house. That's where Keith Smith came in. We were here on vacation and decided at the last minute to look at what houses were available in our price range. We called Keith and he was available to talk to us to get an idea of what we were looking for and set up some showings for us the next day. He was so knowledgeable about the area and what it takes to buy in Mexico as a foreigner, so we were immediately comfortable and at ease.
We looked at a few houses in different parts of town until we walked into the one that we eventually decided to make an offer on. We couldn't believe how amazing and affordable it was, complete with a pool and a giant tree growing right in the middle of it!
We went back home, thought it over and decided to make an offer that was accepted. Keith gave us advice, guiding us through the process the entire time (over 3 months to get all the approvals in place as a foreigner). He was always quick to answer our many questions in such detail that it felt like we were buying a house around the corner, not in another country.
We're here now and moved in and we're happy to say that everything turned out great and exactly as he described to us. We're also glad that we are now good friends with Keith and his husband, and he continues to provide help and answer any questions we have about places to eat and shop, Mexican residency, taxes, insurance and just generally helping us get settled in.
Needless to say we highly recommend Keith Smith if you are looking for a place to buy in Puerto Morelos and if we could give him more than 5 stars we would!

Buying in Mexico was a stressful decision since we had not bought any real estate in over 30 years much less in a foreign country! Keith walked every step of the journey with us, calmly explaining the process, and reassuring us that things were going according to the way things happen in Mexico which is different than in Canada. Keith was a resource about so many things above, beyond and after the purchase. When we were mulling over this big decision Keith was honest about the difference in purchasing in Mexico and did not sugar coat that it may take a while to get things done but it would be done. It was reassuring to know that Keith himself has made the leap to move here. Keith, is an honest, hardworking fellow who we enjoyed working with on our path to this paradise!

Michelle and I closed on our perfect lot in July 2022. I suspected that buying property in Rivera Maya was going to be complicated, but I had no idea just how complicated it was going to be. Thankfully, we had Keith working with us and he has continued to be with us even after closing.
We had a difficult seller who required a lot of negotiation in order to get to closing, Keith never missed a step, even returning my frantic text messages and calls at all hours and weekends. I appreciate Keith’s level head, attention to detail, and knowledge of Mexican real estate law.

We are Randy and Janee from Ohio. We would like to share our experience working with Keith. Since 2009, My husband and I have been traveling to Mexico for vacation and fell in love with the Mexican culture, the amazing food and loving community. We love the warm sunshine all year round. In April 2022, we decided it was time to take the steps to make Mexico our permanent home. Considering we have no prior understanding of the process, we called different realtors for guidance. We came in contact with Keith in May 2022. Keith responded immediately and let us know that he would be happy to help. During this time, Keith would send us information about properties. He assisted us with understanding legal documents and explained thoroughly the steps to make a purchase. Keith’s guidance and punctuality provided us security. Keith made certain we always knew in advance what to expect . We are still working on our Spanish, so Keith, being able to speak Spanish, was able to provide that connection for translation.
With all of us being from the same country, it provided us the security that he knew the process we were used to in the states and would be able to interpret the differences in Mexico. Keith provided the translation in Spanish to the title agency, seller, etc. We have truly gained so much insight from Keith on the Mexican culture.
Since purchasing the land, Keith helped us find the perfect contractor so we could build our dream home. There were times we needed assistance understanding what document is needed for the contractor, Keith provided us with clarity and assistance. I could go on about the wholesome connection and newfound friendship we have made working with Keith, but I am certain you will find the same rewarding experience for yourself.

Buying or selling a property in Mexico is a highly complex and often baffling process, even if you speak Spanish fluently, as I do. You can easily lose thousands of dollars and gain many grey hairs in the hands of the wrong realtor.
I bought a property in Puerto Morelos in 2017 through a person who I later discovered was neither a qualified realtor nor experienced in the property market. Because of this, several serious problems with the original paperwork arose when I needed to sell it. The property had never been properly registered and there were many other issues that had to be resolved before anyone could buy it. Fortunately, this time I had a professional realtor to sort out the mess.
Keith was amazing. With enormous patience he guided me through the minefield of bureaucracy that is Mexican property law, resolving each problem as it arose. I was ready to burn the house down several times but Keith managed to calm me down and find a way forward each time a new curve ball was thrown at us. He stayed totally professional and never lost his cool despite multiple challenges. Eighteen months later my sale was finally completed!
Having been through that horrific process I can honestly say that whether you are buying or selling a property in Quintana Roo you won’t find a kinder or more knowledgeable person than Keith to place your trust in.
Keith has become a friend for life and I hope that he will visit me in Scotland one day. My only regret is that he wasn’t around when I bought my house in Puerto Morelos!
